REMEMBERING THE PRAYERS JESUS PRAYED #6 - When Praying Is All You Can Do

JESUS MADE 7 STATEMENTS FROM THE CROSS.

3 OF THOSE STATEMENTS WERE PRAYED PROPHECIES.

JESUS SHOWS ME THAT WHEN PRAYING IS ALL I CAN DO,

I SHOULD…

  1. REQUEST FORGIVENESS FOR THOSE WHO HURT ME

“Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do”

Luke 23:34a

Because doing so makes me like JESUS

Because doing so removes my BURDEN

Because doing so may BLESS OTHERS

The Roman Centurion, the soldier in charge of the executions, stood in front of Jesus, [heard His words,] and saw the manner of His death. And Said: Surely this man was the Son of God!

Mark 15:39 (VOICE)

Because doing so brings a REWARD FROM GOD

For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.

Matthew 6:14 (NIV)

I will give him a place of honor, a place among the great and powerful. He willingly gave his life and shared the fate of evil men. He took the place of many sinners and prayed that they might be forgiven.”

Isaiah 53:12 GNT

  1. REMEMBER, MY PAIN DOESN’T NEGATE GOD’S PROMISE

“My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?”

Matthew 27:46b (NIV)

Yet you brought me out of the womb; you made me trust in you, even at my mother's breast.

Psalm 22:9 (NIV)

From birth I was cast on you; from my mother's womb you have been my God. Do not be far from me, for trouble is near and there is no one to help.

Psalm 22:10-11 (NIV)

But you, LORD, do not be far from me. You are my strength; come quickly to help me.

Psalm 22:19 (NIV)

From you comes the theme of my praise in the great assembly; before those who fear you I will fulfill my vows.

Psalm 22:25 (NIV)

The poor will eat and be satisfied; those who seek the LORD will praise him-- may your hearts live forever!

Psalm 22:26 (NIV)

All the ends of the earth will remember and turn to the LORD, and all the families of the nations will bow down before him

Psalm 22:27 (NIV)

Our children will also serve Him. Future generations will hear about the wonders of the Lord.

Psalm 22:30 (NIV)

They will proclaim his righteousness, declaring to a people yet unborn: He has done it!

Psalm 22:31 (NIV)

No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down and authority to take it up again. This command I received from my Father.”

John 10:18 (NIV)

  1. REAFFIRM MY COMMITMENT TO MY FAITHFUL GOD

“Father, into your hands I commit my spirit!”

Luke 23:46 (NIV) & Psalm 31:5 (NIV)

As they hurled stone after stone at him, Stephen prayed, “Our Lord Jesus, accept my spirit into your presence.” He crumpled to his knees and shouted in a loud voice, “Our Lord, don’t hold this sin against them.” And then he died.

Acts 7:59, 60 (NLT)

Simply endure, for when you have done as God requires of you, you will receive the promise. As the prophet Habakkuk said,

In a little while, only a little longer,

the One who is coming will come without delay.

But My righteous one must live by faith, for if he gives up his commitment, My soul will have no pleasure in him. My friends, we are not those who give up hope and so are lost; but we are of the company who live by faith and so are saved.

Hebrews 10:36-39 (VOICE)
