1. JESUS IS SUPERIOR TO ALL…THE ANGELS, THE PROPHETS, MOSES AND US
Therefore, holy brothers and sisters, who share in the heavenly calling, fix your thoughts on Jesus, whom we acknowledge as our apostle and high priest…Moses was faithful as a servant in all God’s house, bearing witness to what would be spoken by God in the future…But Christ is faithful as the Son over God’s house.
Hebrews 3:1,5-6
The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.
Colossians 1:15
God exalted Him to the highest place and gave Him the name that is above every name.
Philippians 2:9
2. FAITHFULNESS IS MEASURED BY PERSEVERING OBEDIENCE.
NOT JUST HOLDING ON, BUT WALKING IN TRUST
….And we are His house, if indeed we hold firmly to our confidence and the hope in which we glory. So, as the Holy Spirit says: “Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts as you did in the rebellion.”
Hebrews 3:6–8
To whom did God swear that they would never enter His rest if not to those who disobeyed? So we see that they were not able to enter, because of their unbelief.
Hebrews 3:18-19
For we have come to share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original conviction firmly to the very end.
Hebrews 3:14
The one who stands firm to the end will be saved.
Matthew 24:13
We are witnesses of these things, and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey Him.
Acts 5:32
3. WE HAVE A RESPONSIBILITY TO ONE ANOTHER
FAITHFULNESS IS A COMMUNITY CALLING
See to it, brothers and sisters, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God. But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called “Today,” so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness.
Hebrews 3:12-13
Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.
Galatians 6:2
Let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds.
Hebrews 10:24
4. I MUST UNDERSTAND SIN HARDENS THE HEART & KILLS FAITHFULNESS
So that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness.
Hebrews 3:13
Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.
Proverbs 4:23
They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of the hardness of their hearts.
Ephesians 4:18
5. GOD’S PROMISE OF REST STILL REMAINS, SO DOES THE WARNING BUT REST BELONGS TO THE OBEDIENT
Therefore, since the promise of entering His rest still stands, let us be careful that none of you be found to have fallen short of it. For we also have had the good news proclaimed to us, just as they did; but the message they heard was of no value to them, because they were not united by faith with those who listened.
Hebrews 4:1-2
Now these things occurred as examples to keep us from setting our hearts on evil things as they did.
1 Corinthians 10:6
Blessed are those who hear the word of God and obey it.
Luke 11:28
6. I MAKE EVERY EFFORT TO STAY FAITHFUL
FAITHFULNESS REQUIRES INTENTIONAL OBEDIENCE
Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will perish by following their example of disobedience…To whom did God swear that they would never enter His rest if not to those who disobeyed?
Hebrews 3:11-18
Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts.
Hebrews 3:15
Whoever wants to be My disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow Me.
Luke 9:23
If you love Me, keep My commands.
John 14:15
